Glossostigma Warrior (Glossostigma elatinoides)
The birthplace of this plant is New Zealand, Australia, etc. It belongs to a number of Norichnikovs.
Given the fact that glossostigma elatinoides grows near water, therefore, in summer it feels good and even blooms with small white flowers.
Glossostigma has opposite leaves, about 1 cm long and 0.5 cm wide, which grow in a thin and elongated stem. This branching plant is able to crawl along the ground and densely cover the entire space.
All new processes have separate roots that are internodes connected into one plant. Usually their length does not exceed 1 cm, but sometimes it can reach 5 cm. This means that it can grow in different directions, therefore there are some features in caring for it.
In order for the plant to fill only a certain area, it needs to periodically trim the edges, otherwise it will fill the entire aquarium.
Cultivation at home is quite difficult, since glossostigma needs intense lighting, clean and soft water. Mineral dressing is also periodically required.
For growing in an aquarium, special soil is required. It should have enough nutrients and iron. Soil needs to be selected from small not pointed fractions. Since the roots are very tender and long. Therefore, if you use soft sand, its roots can be well fixed in it. In this case, it will not branch, but can beautifully fill the bottom of the aquarium.
If the soil is too large, then it will not work to create a beautiful lawn, the glossostigma will simply grow in height. But at the same time, large fractions are perfect for stopping growth in the right places.
In the event of a lack of light and without the use of fertilizers, the plants will not die, but will behave differently. It will quickly begin to stretch to the surface (it can grow 15 cm in height).
Therefore, if you want to get a green grass carpet in your aquarium, you will have to take care of the intense lighting. If natural light is not enough, then it is necessary to supplement artificial light so that daylight hours are at least 12 hours. At the same time, do not forget to make fertilizers, which will contain iron.
Glossostigmus propagates quite simply, with the help of a creeping stem with roots.
To plant a plant, it should be divided into separate shoots, which will have two leaves, you need to plant it in the ground at a distance of about 2 cm.It is better to do this with tweezers so that the roots can dive deep enough into the ground and become fixed in it, otherwise it just pops up.
And after 1-2 months, a beautiful green coating will appear in the aquarium. Then, when the glossostigma grows, it needs to be trimmed. If this is not done, the green rug may just float to the surface. Because the light will get into the lower layer badly and it will simply rot.
To do this is not at all difficult, you need to cut the edges with sharp scissors, if, by negligence, the roots of the shoot are pulled out, then you do not need to plant it back, it is better to just cut it so as not to disturb the growth of the others. It is also necessary to periodically remove yellow and dead leaves in order to preserve all the green beauty. After 10 days after pruning, the plantations will regain their original form.
Despite the difficulties of growing glossostigma, it has not lost its popularity among aquarists. And all because with proper care the plant will delight daily with its beauty not only the owners of aquariums, but also its inhabitants.
