Utricularia (Utricularia graminifolia)
Graminifolia ultricularia or pemphigus travifolia - an aquarium plant with an unusually attractive appearance, an elegant and very beautiful plant. Suitable for creating an unusual design in the aquarium. The main difference and at the same time the advantage of ultrasound is that it is a predatory plant. Food for him are insects that inhabit the vast expanses of water. But do not be afraid, because for small inhabitants of the aquarium, such as shrimp, it does not pose a danger. In nature, he prefers to grow in poor soils, as he receives the bulk of the nutrients from captured insects. The plant got its second name, due to the fact that it has a lot of bubbles on it, and they serve as a bait and trap for prey.
Bubble herbaceous is a ground cover, branched plant. It has leaves of soft green color, up to 4 cm long and 0.2 cm wide. Utricularia should be planted in an aquarium in small bunches, no larger than 1 square. cm.
Very often utricularia graminifolia is confused with pemphigus humpback, which refers to weeds. Because it has a filamentary structure in which there are no leaves at all, because of this, the humpback pemphigus has no value.
Maintenance and care
As a soil for utricularia, river sand cannot be used. It will be difficult for the roots of the plant to take root in it, so it will not work to grow a beautiful green carpet. In this case, any soft substrate is perfect. In comfortable conditions it grows quite actively, therefore it needs regular pruning. This should be done as carefully as possible, and take into account the fact that the utility of graminifolia squeezes part of the soil into the upper layer.
This plant is classified as finicky, and all because utricularia will actively grow in one aquarium, and in another, with more acceptable conditions, it will not be able to take root or this process will be delayed. Therefore, in the aquarium where grass pemphigus grows, you need to constantly monitor the conditions of detention.
It can be said for sure that ulticularia does not adapt well to new conditions. But if this succeeds, then the plant will begin to actively grow and develop.
Another important condition in the content is the additional introduction of trace elements, including iron. But the lighting is less demanding and will grow well with an illumination of 0.5 watts per 1 liter. But if there is not enough light, the color of the leaves will begin to change, and they will turn light green. There should be a constant supply of CO2, while the pH should not exceed 7.5.
It must be remembered that pemphigus herbaceous is very tender, so you need to buy the plant in tight packaging, otherwise it can easily be damaged during transportation. When planting the utricularia, it must be divided into several small bundles and planted at a distance of about 4 cm from each other. When the engraftment period ends, literally in a month the plant will fill the aquarium and turn into a solid green carpet. Therefore, to improve the access of light, it must be periodically seated.
Utricularia has one more surprising quality, that all its leaves grow in one direction, not chaotically. Because of this, it will seem that there is a current in the aquarium. Thanks to this, you can create a unique design that will delight your eyes daily. You can influence the direction of the leaves using a water filter, and the direction of the leaves depends on how it is located. Because of this feature, the plant can be safely planted in the foreground.
