According to the results of the study, plistophorosis is recognized as one of the most dangerous and untreatable diseases of aquarium fish. This pathogen parasitizes both in the muscle tissues of the fish and in its individual internal organs. Such clusters of pansporoblasts are round gray-white nodules on the body, inside of which ovoid spores are formed, surrounded by a membrane. After a certain time, they secrete amoeboid processes that quickly infect the rest of the body of the diseased fish. Plistophorosis occurs as a result of ingestion of parasite spores by a healthy fish, which are fixed on the intestinal walls, open up, enter the blood and muscle tissue, where pansporoblasts are already forming. Ill or dead fish pose a danger to others, being a source of spread of plethophorosis. Infection can occur not only from other fish, but also as a result of spores getting into water, soil, and even plants.
Symptoms of the disease
The main symptom of plethophorosis in aquarium fish is a change in the natural color of the body. In diseased fish, in certain parts of the body, the color fades noticeably, becoming absolutely pale and inexpressive after a short period of time. After which there is a violation in the coordination of movements: a sick fish can take an unnatural position, making jump-like movements. Flocking fish try to stay away, appetite disappears and diseased fish stop feeding, lag behind in growth, which leads to their depletion and death. In some individuals, it is possible to replace, as it were, split fins, as well as gray translucent nodules on the body and head, which are the spores of the parasite.
Sick fish die because Plistophorosis is not treatable. If a disease is suspected, all fish (including healthy ones) are destroyed. Plants will also have to be disposed of. All components of the aquarium are boiled, the walls of the aquarium are disinfected. To prevent the disease, acquired fish and mollusks are quarantined, carefully examine purchased plants, and also remove dead fish from the aquarium in a timely manner.
